No app is going to help you lose weight

Couple of years ago I lost 10 kg. Not many people noticed anything, or at least they didn't say anything. It happened gradually so the daily or weekly change wasn't that big but after two to three months I noticed the change when my old dress was too big for me to use. It was surprising to notice that I had actually lost weight since I didn't "see" it and I hadn't planned it, it just happened.

I had been trying to lose that weight forever since I gained some weight during my exchange student year and due to problems with my thyroid. I have now gained some of that weight back since that's how life is. Your weight changes over the years and body goes through different types of phases. Some days I feel so bloated and out of energy, and some days I am full of energy and radiating positivy around me.

I never thought that anyone's value is based on their weight. But I do know how it feels when you're not happy or satisfied and you feel like you are out of energy and motivation. Of course with my condition (thyroid disease) it is normal that I don't always feel so good. Luckily with modern medicine I am able to keep my condition in check.

All of those years that I wanted to lose my weight I wasn't succesfull because of two reasons:

  1. My medication was messed up, only after I found good doctor things started to happen and my new life, as I like to call it, started.
  2. I didn't fix the issue, the root cause, what had led me to over-eat and gain weight.
I used to be unhappy and I used to eat my emotions. It wasn't until I found happiness and learned how to handle my emotions that I learned to manage my eating habits.

I started to believe that there are certain reasons why people are over-weight and not able to lose their weight even if they want to. And I also realised that no app, no diet or plan will work until you tap into that root problem and fix it. Nothing will work in long-term until you have actually fixed what is "wrong" with you.

I am not saying that everyone should be fit or thin or something. What I am saying is that if you are not happy and if you are living unhealthy it is something you should look into.

I used to think that being thin would make me happy. I was wrong. There is no external factor that can make you happy. No shoes, no car, no work, no relationship, nothing. Happiness comes within. From you. Inside of you. When you tap into that shining light inside of you, you will find happiness. You will learn to love yourself, appreciate you, you will be happy no matter how you look or how much you weight. But it all starts with learning to know yourself, facing your demons and healing yourself from whatever it is that is hurting you.
