No one cares about your mission and vision -or do they?
Here in Finland we have some burger joints, just like every where. The usual fast-food places where people go in hurry, when they don't have that much money to spent, if they like burgers and want to eat one or it is trendy to go there. Yes, burgers can be trendy. Reasons vary. But how many of these customers can tell their favourite burger places mission and vision? And why should they even care about it? They are hungry, they have limited amount of money and time, so they go and eat = profit.

For instance McDonald's doesn't just want to sell food, they want to also help communities around them and make sure they offer quality products that don't harm the nature (more than necessary). McDonald's is spending lot of money on their advertising and basically "everyone" should be aware of their efforts. Still some people see multinational / big corporations evil and don't want to use their products. That is of course their own choice and luckily we have multiple options to choose from. Smaller entities are not able to help communities same way as big corporations are and vice versa.
But what can we learn from corporations?
In my opinion every person should have their own mission and vision too! It might sound kind of dumb but when you actually stop and think about it, it starts to make sense. Everyone of us is valuable, that's for sure. We are all here in the same boat, trying to figure out how to row. I have seen people becoming more and more selfish and distant, lonely and sad. Some of us don't feel connected.
But we either have our reason to be on this planet or we create one. I once felt lost and lonely, I didn't know what is it that I want to do and how I should do it.
I asked one of my favourite teachers at school about this and his first advice to me was: go back to your childhood. What was it that you wanted to do as a child? And why? For instance if you wanted to heal and help people you probably dreamed of being a doctor. That same need and want is still there. You might be doing something totally different now. But it is never too late to go back to your childhood dream and think of a way to implement that need and want to your own life now.
Basically your childhood dream is your mission. Then you only need to figure out how to do it (vision statement). There are so many options. You don't have to go back to school, unless you want to, but you can for instance join charity or organization.
Good luck!
Wikipedia says:
A mission statement, a type of statement of purpose, is a statement which is used to communicate the purpose of an organization.
The definition of a vision statement according to BusinessDictionary is "An aspirational description of what an organisation would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is intended to serve as a clear guide for choosing current and future courses of action."Mission and vision are important internally and externally. They guide employees at work. What is it that the company wants to achieve and how? Companys strategy and brand should be based on the mission and vision. Organization needs to have a clear road-map, targets and goals. Otherwise it is just drifting around, without any meaning.
